Nailed It!

Hey Everyone!

Sorry I haven't posted as much this week, I am finishing up a course and finals are around the corner! Once this class is over I will have much more time to post and take more pictures. Until then, I have a fun new manicure to show you. I am still obsessed with almond nails, especially with a neutral color polish to tone it down a little.

At the nail salon, I ask to keep my nails as short as possible but with the almond shape. They basically just file down the sides until they get a nice pointy shape. I have on CND Shellac in Cream Puff with a very subtle coat of CND Shellac Silver VIP Status on my ring finger. You can really only see the fine sparkles in the sun.

I am loving my new Cape Town Tote that I got from Francesca's. It's really fun because it looks sort of like a briefcase when the corners are all zipped but then opens up on the sides when it's unzipped. It's perfect for lugging all your stuff to work or school!

Chic of the Week

Hi Everyone!

It's time for another chic of the week! This time I will be switching it up and posting three different items. JCrew has been hitting it out of the park with their jewelry collection lately. I am literally obsessed with all of the pieces but I narrowed it down for you guys. Statement necklaces are a great way to take a simple item, like a tee or button down, and add a little dimension to the outfit. I also feel like they are an investment since you can wear them with so many different outfits!

JCrew Color Collage Statement Necklace available here

JCrew Tortoise Flower Necklace available here

JCrew Crystal and Neon Chevron Necklace available here

All of these necklaces would be great paired with the following items.

Jeans: Citizens of Humanity Racer Skinny Jean available on Piperlime
Heels: Zara High Heel Vamp Shoe available on Zara
White button down: JCrew Boy Shirt available on JCrew

My Favorite Products: Morning Routine

Hi Everyone!

I hope you enjoyed my post on which products I use for my night skin care routine. I decided to do the same for the products I use in the morning, as well. Enjoy!

I actually use less products in the morning than I do at night so this will be a little simpler. I still start with my favorite facial cleanser by NARS. It makes my skin feel so smooth and clean.

NARS Purifying Foam Cleanser available here

I don't really use a toner in the morning because I don't feel like I have a lot of build up since I always wash my face before I go to bed. If I have any left over mascara or anything, my favorite makeup remover is the Lid+Lash Wash by Bliss. It doesn't leave behind a greasy residue like a lot of makeup removers do.

Bliss lid+lash wash makeup remover available here

I use different facial moisturizers depending on which season it is. I am still using my winter moisturizer, NARS Luminous Moisture Cream, because my skin has still been pretty dry. In the summer I go for a lighter moisturizer like Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 15.

NARS luminous Moisture Cream available here

Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer available here

This routine is pretty much as simple as it gets! Use your skin as a guide and see which products work for you. You may need to add an eye cream, something with higher SPF, or a spot treatment.

My Favorite Products: Night Routine

Hi Everyone!

I can't stress enough how important it is to have a great skin care routine. I do love makeup products but without a great base it's a constant struggle to cover things up!

I always start with washing my face, the most important step! I love the NARS purifying cleanser because you only need a small amount and it foams up a lot. It also has very fine exfoliants in it to help slough dead skin. I only use toner at night to get any excess makeup off that my face wash missed. NARS also makes a great one because it's alcohol free and doesn't dry your skin out.

Next I use Neutrogena rapid tone repair moisturizer which has a retinol in it. Retinol helps brighten your skin and even out any discoloration or dark spots. Lastly, I use a hydrocortisone cream on my eyes. I know it sounds weird but I have always had problems with redness and flaking on my eyelids. Hydrocortisone cream is the only thing that works for me!

NARS Purifying Foam Cleanser available on Sephora

NARS Multi-Action Hydrating Toner available on Sephora

Neutrogena Rapid Tone Repair Moisturizer available here

Aveeno 1% Hydrocortisone available here

You should always experiment with any skin care routine and find which products work best for you! These are just some of the products I love to use and have really make a difference in the quality of my skin. I also love to read the reviews of all the skin care products on Sephora  to find what everyone else loves.

Purely Pinterest

Hi Everyone!

Pinterest is a perfect site to find inspiration for everything from fashion to home decor. When I feel like I'm in a style rut I love to browse the Women's Fashion page for new ideas! I am loving this monochromatic look below. The gold belt breaks it up a little and makes the outfit a touch dressier. Love how the loose top falls off her shoulder a little bit! I will definitley be trying this look soon!

Chic of the Week

Hi Everyone!

There are some serious spring sales going on right now on my favorite online shopping sites. It's a full time job sifting through so many pages of sale, but don't worry, I've done the brunt of the work for you!

I love Piperlime because they have a great mix of high end and more affordable fashions. Also, my style crush of the month Olivia Palermo has a page of all her fashion picks (love).

I've been looking through their spring sale and fell in LOVE with this Tinley Road top. I love items that seem really simple but have a twist to them. At first glance this top looks like a plain tee shirt but the vegan leather material adds a special touch. Throw it on with a pair of skinny jeans to balance out the boxiness and you're good to go!

Earn Your Stripes

Hi Everyone!

Stripes truly embody classic American style. They remind us of sailing, fourth of July, and (duh) the American flag! Iconic celebrities like Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Onassis display that quintessential American look: throw on a striped tee and a pair of jeans for a chic and simple outfit. Today, we have more options than we know what to do with when it comes to stripes! To take the guessing game out of making these looks, I compiled some stripe essentials, classic pairings, and more bold pairings. Don't be afraid to mix stripes with another pattern, like polka dots, in the same color family and scale.

Just For Fun: Hair Chalk

Hi Everyone!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! So I've been following all of the Coachella action via instagram and twitter and so wish I was there. Everyone takes Coachella as an opportunity to wear their best bohemian chic looks. I love that the fashion is just as important as the music! In the boho spirit I decided to try a little hair chalk since I've been seeing it everywhere but have never tried it!

Here's the finished product! I used a purpley pink hair chalk and just rubbed it back and forth across the ends of a section of hair. It's as easy as that! So next time your going to a concert or a fun night out, try a little hair chalk to liven up your look.

Urban Outfitters had a great kit that included every color available here. Free People also has kits by color family including pink, black, yellow, green, and blue available here.

Leather So Soft

Hi Everyone!

So let's talk leather. We all love it but can feel challenged with incorporating it into our everyday wardrobe. You want to look cool and sophisticated but not like a dominatrix! The best way to accomplish this, is by mixing it with every day pieces from your closet. Avoid any head to toe leather looks!

In the pictures below I styled a leather pencil skirt with a simple cotton gray tank, statement necklace, and black leather pumps. The tank gives the look a more relaxed feel. This is an outfit you could wear for a night out or for a dressier day event. I like a little bit of a longer hem with a leather skirt to keep it sophisticated.

What's In My Bag?

Hi everyone!

I've always loved seeing the "What's in my bag" segments in other magazines so I decided to do one myself!

I always have to have all the essentials in my purse like floss, orbit gum, tide to go pen, and eye drops.

I  have a million different chap sticks and lip gloss but my favorites are Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm , Korres Lip Butter in Pomegranate, Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint in Amused, Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Number 20, and Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 in Rose.

I never leave the house without my Chanel 5225Q sunglasses available here.

I love Simple Facial Cleansing Wipes to take my makeup off before going to the gym or getting a spray tan. They are very gentle and not drying at all.

I received this Pinch Provisions for JCrew Minimergency Kit for Christmas and I am obsessed. It literally has a mini version of everything you could possibly need from clear nail polish to a deodorant towelette.

I really like my Marc by Marc Jacobs Totally Turnlock Wallet. It holds a lot of different credit cards and change so it's great. It's no longer available but I did find one on eBay here.

My Madison Leather Lindsey Satchel by Coach is great because it has a cross body strap and normal handles which is great when shopping! It's a very timeless and classic silhouette so I got it in red for a fun twist!

I hope you all enjoyed getting a peek at what's in my bag. Have a great weekend!

Style Crush of the Month

Hi Everyone!

Inspiration is everywhere and there are certain people who just exude style and grace. Fashion, to me, is art and the wearer of these "looks" is the artist. It takes a certain eye to mix textures, color, and prints without looking like a clown. Olivia Palermo was clearly born with this talent because she is always flawless head to toe. I am so inspired by the way she takes simple pieces, like a gray sweatshirt, and makes them look like a million bucks. I've compiled some of my favorite looks for my style crush of the month. Hope you enjoy!

I die for this textured brocade coat with the fur collar and trim. She lets the coat shine with simple black jeans and pointy toe stilettos. The pop of cobalt from her bag adds the perfect amount of color.

In this outfit Olivia somehow figured out how to mix three trends: neon, printed trousers, and leopard print shoes. She is clearly a genius because I don't know that I could have pulled this off!

I am really into mixing different textures and Olivia knocked this one out of the park. The plain white tee adds a relaxed feel to her highly detailed jacket and skirt. She topped it off with suede lace up booties and a clutch.

Here is the gray sweatshirt I was referring to above. Pairing such a simple item with high end pieces (cap toe stilettos, leather clutch) gives this outfit a downtown cool vibe.

I do love to see Olivia in some of her more relaxed looks. This is a great example in simple ballet flats, a pleated skirt, and blouse. These are peices that are a little more accessible to the average fashionista!

Chic of the Week

Hi Everyone,

Here is my chic item of the week! I have been dying over these Jeffrey Campbell shoes on the Free People website for a while now. When I'm deciding wether or not to buy a particular item, I always wait to see if I can live without them. The more I think about these shoes, the more I need them. They also come in a black/white, and nude/silver combination. I just love the buttery leather mixed with the pop of black on top of that subtle platform. I hope you guys love them too! Pair these with boyfriend jeans, leather leggings, or a little black dress.

Geek Chic Eyeglasses

Hi Everyone!

So it's official: "geek chic" glasses are here to stay. Some trends just end up having the staying power to become classics and this trend is a great example. Not only are these glasses adorable, but I also find them a little more functional. The larger lenses within the frames help with my peripheral vision and when looking down.

Just use the same "Sunglasses For Your Face Shape" guide when looking for a new pair of eyeglasses to flatter your face shape! Solid black lenses tend to be a bolder choice while a lighter color (like the picture below) blend with your skin color for a more subdued look. Either way, your IQ will go up by at least 10 points!

Some inspiration:

Which geek chic frames am I wearing?

On a different note, how cute is this Klever Case for the Kindle Fire? They are handmade by The Manor Bindery in Hampshire England! I'm obsessed with my "Midsummers Night Dream" case but check them all out on their website!

Hope you have a chic week!
